My primary responsibilities on Netflix Stories revolved arounds this Character Creator.
Characters were originally made in Spine and came with a lot of bloat and limitations due to lack of documentation and understanding by those who remained to use the pipeline.
I redesigned the character pipeline with an engineer and an animator. The new one...
Was based in Maya (much wider knowledge base)
Was built for modularity, separating as much as possible into different meshes so textures could be shared
Included color mapping so clothing could be made white and cheaply colored for variety without bloating textures
Included shader level layering so multiple textures could be stacked for even more variety with minimal textures, but still use minimal draw calls
To work with this pipeline
Tools for quickly finding and assigning textures to custom data structures to build outfits, faces, etc.
Tools for creating gradients and assigning them to data for use in coloring assets.
Once built, I ran the central team that managed shared content across multiple projects and built out new features as teams needed them, and delivered updates to the teams.
